Keown, Merson and Wright help a Gooner win £100k Sun Fantasy Football 20 Years Ago

That was then and this is now

A massively self indulgent piece this week, but hey !!

20 years ago this happened

Wellmo wins Sun Fantasy Football 97

and these 11 players changed my life.

Please note; the team name was originally ‘Arse and All FC’ but this was back in the day of telephone entries and apparently I wasn’t allowed to swear !!!

Following recent events #RIPUgo, I thought I’d look back and see where they are now

Nigel Martin – Cornish born keeper, normally waiting in line for Seaman (to get injured), last seen as Bradford City goalkeeping coach in 2007.

Steve Staunton – An Irish international who was actually born in Ireland. Went on to be Sir Bobby Robson’s number one as the Republic national coach and most recently seen kicking his heels in the north east as a Middlesbrough & Sunderland scout.

Martin Keown – A member of the famous back four (the Bould vs Keown argument continues), now part time scout, part time pundit, part time Renford Razors player.

Ugo Ehiogu – Not much to say except #RIPUgo

Alan Wright – Left Blackburn the year before they won the title and hasn’t been seen since 2013, when he was managing Southport

Paul Merson – Gooner/Drinking legend, SkySports pundit, God awful predictor of results

David Beckham – Used to bang them in from the half way line, now bangs them into a Spice Girl (very Keys and Grey, sorry).

Robbie Earle – Port Vale, Wimbledon, Jamaica, MBE, MasterChef

Ian Wright – Gooner legend, BTSport Pundit, Defender of the faith, Hater of Kronke

Dion Dublin – Started at Norwich City, ended at Norwich City and then played with Ocean Colour Scene

Gianfranco Zola – Ask Napoli, Parma, Chelsea and Renford Rejects; awesome player. Ask West Ham, Watford and Birmingham, awful manager.

Steve Wellman, The manager?

I’m still here, living off past glories!!!
