Now Puma have taken over the 20 year reign of Nike as the Vic Akers favourite accompaniment with Bold 2 in 1, I thought I’d have a look back at ‘My Arsenal Life In Nike’.
May 1997 – Worn with pride, whilst sat in the pub in Dorchester, watching Wrighty bang in a couple against Derby to clinch my DreamTeam win in ’97 (£100k with Sun Fantasy Football,)
May 98 – Sat in the Clock End (with the Toffees), as Tony put the finishing touches to Arsene Wenger’s first title.
July 98 – Went on holiday to Florida, found a bar full of Frenchmen, they liked my shirt and got royally drunk watching Emmanuel Petit finish off the Brazilians.
May 2004 – Sat in the North Bank in disbelief as Paul Dickov scored to ruin our party, then watched Patrick Vieira score to rewrite history.
May 2009 – The last time I used my season ticket, before emigrating. To be rectified Boxing Day 2014.
May 2014 – Final whistle, 5am, Star Casino Sydney, downing champers and celebrating even further into the small hours.
Home Shirt 02/03 -signed by Edu, in the car park underneath The Clock End, after the Roma Champions League Match on 11th March 2003. Had to seriously dodge the security to get this.
Home Shirt 05/06 – Christmas (2005) pressie, from my long suffering wife, who waited all day in the cold at London Colney to get the shirt signed by Thierry Henry, Ca$hley Cole, Gilberto, Sol Campbell and Dennis Bergkamp.
Here’s to the next 20 years with Puma.
