Bouldie sat them all down and our Christmas present is 1 Nil to the Arsenal

Captain’s Log star date nearly Christmas.
Spock says he has no emotion, and that I should bother buying him anything, but he said the same thing last year and when I didn’t get him a gift the Vulcan pinched me in the balls.

3 wins in a row, but more importantly, 3 clean sheets.

A lots has happened in the Gunnerverse since my last blog. Two more wins and two more clean sheets to boot amongst other things. That’s three in a row, and is a real step in the right direction. The last two wins may have been drab one nils, but they were wins and that’s what counts. I would rather win 1-0 than draw 2-2.

It really feels like Wenger has sat the squad down with Steve Bould and reminded them how to defend as a unit. He also seems to have reminded them that you don’t need to be trying to score a 2nd goal when you’re only 1 up with 10 minutes left.
If you don’t concede you cannot possibly lose a game. We’re much better at the back, and although we may have temporarily lost some momentum going forward, we’ll get the balance right soon enough.

The return of Giroud has been massive. Anyone who reads my Captains Log regularly will know how I feel about him, (that may have come out wrong). We’re set up to play to him and through him, and having him back has brought back our ability to play Plan A. Happy days.

Wenger made comments about winning the league in the next few years. I don’t know if he reads my blog, especially last weeks upbeat message about how good times are a-coming, but I didn’t mean we’d start winning big time under his leadership. Obviously if he buys the right players in January then things could change, but realistically I think good times are coming when he leaves due to the work he’s done to make Arsenal into the club it is today. It goes without saying however that every Arsenal fan would be delighted if the great man brought the glory home himself.

Speaking of the great man, I saw the banner that some fans displayed at West Brom. I understand that such banners are not allowed at The Emirates, which backs up the assertion that Wenger is a bit of a dictator, but banners like that don’t help the team, especially when they’re trying to put a good run together. I don’t like the idea that the atmosphere at home is tainted. Let’s not become like Tottenham, where the players actively dislike playing at white shart lane. Also, let’s show some respect, Wenger may have lost his way, and maybe he should leave, but banners on match day isn’t the way to go.

I loved the blog the other day by the rather excellent Subomi Oguntoyinbo about Sanchez’s impact on The Ox. I couldn’t agree more and you can see that he’s learnt from the mercurial Chilean. I wonder if that idea could be extended somewhat to Thierry Henry coming home and what affect he could have on Welbeck and maybe Theo. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think he’s going to be the manager any time soon, but his influence and experience could be a huge benefit for some of the players, and seeing him on a match day would lift the fans aswell.

Looks assured and deserves a run?

We’ve got a busy period coming up soon but luckily a lot of our injured players are coming back just in time. I hope Wenger rests the likes of Alexis and Rambo for the midweek game against Galatasaray. We’ve already qualified and Gala aren’t that good. I do hope Martinez gets a solid run in goal though. He seems more assured than Szczesny and I’d love to see how good he can be with a few more games and some extra confidence.
