Podolski top dog with wunderbar strike

 Another
day, another award at the Gunners Town Awards where we reveal the winners of
last week’s awards that were voted by you. Last week, we told you what goals we
thought were worthy of the accolade and you came back to us with your argument.

Today we dish out the
Goal of the Season award and this was an enjoyable one to decide. There is
nothing quite like watching a Gooner net an absolute gem to send the fans into
delirium. And let’s face it, there are plenty of players in our squad who are
capable of doing just that.

Despite strong competition from Theo Walcott and Laurent
Koscielny, Lukas Podolski emerged victorious with 39% of the vote for his
volley against Montpellier at the Emirates in the Champions League.

 The full results are
below as well as a selection of comments from those who voted.

Darren Wright – Lukas
Podolski (Montpellier Home)

My goal of the year for Arsenal
has to be Lukas Podolski’s goal against Montpellier. The build up was more
beautiful than Kelly Brook and the volley-finish from the German was more
powerful than the most powerful power of all time.

Chris Moar – Kieran
Gibbs (Swansea City Away – FA Cup)

I’m going with Kieran Gibbs Vs
Swansea. The pure technique in the strike, especially from a left-back who
isn’t renowned for his goal scoring, was superb. The celebration was brilliant
too.

Dave Seager – Theo
Walcott (Third vs. Newcastle United

This one is easy and it is Theo’s
hattrick sole effort against the Toon at the Emirates in the 7-3. Guile,
confidence, skill, bravery and then the finish which reminded me of one of the
great goal scored by Arshavin v Blackburn in 2010.

 Michael Jeffares – Lukas Podolski
(Montpellier)

An outrageous finish of the
highest order as he nearly ripped the net off. Giroud has laid on a couple of
delightful passes this season and Poldi didn’t even have to break stride
as he blew the keeper. Superb goal.

Gunners Town Goal of the Season: Lukas Podolski

Thanks for voting!
