Arsenal new boy Olivier Giroud has already become a hit with the Gooner faithful after declaring that he turned down a move to Chelsea in favour of moving to the Emirates Stadium.
The striker finally completed his £12m move to the Gunners on Tuesday after weeks of speculation and signed a long-term contract with the club.
While many are already excited about the 25-year-old’s arrival, he has already brought a smile to the faces of the Arsenal fans after revealing that he snubbed a transfer to London rivals Chelsea.
“Why did I choose Arsenal rather than Chelsea?” Giroud told French newspaper L’Equipe.
“Because it is a club I love and I thought it would be easier for my adaptation.
“Arsenal is a great club, the facilities are wonderful, but I feel it is a club that takes big care before signing a player, notably considering human values.
“There are French players. There is also Arsene Wenger who let me understand he really wanted me.
“Chelsea is very nice, it is a great club, but I am not convinced Di Matteo knows who I am.
“The choice was between Chelsea and Arsenal.
“I chose Arsenal because of the club’s philosophy and stability. It is something that means a lot for me.”
Giroud has also insisted that he hasn’t signed for the Gunners to replace Robin Van Persie.
The Arsenal captain has just one year left on his deal and has been surrounded with speculation about his future, with Manchester City and more recently Paris Saint-Germain reportedly keen on pinching the striker from North London.
However, Giroud is adamant that he will be playing alongside the Dutchman at the Emirates next season.
“When you make the decision to join a great club, you know there is already a great forward. I know what to expect.
“Van Persie is a fantastic player who was outstanding last season.
“He has been at Arsenal for eight years and I hope I will have time to adapt and improve. Anyway, I don’t go there to take his place.”
Arsene Wenger is supposedly keen on playing the pair alongside Lukas Podolski in a front three.
