Defender chase hots up

In the news today:

In the race to sign a defender, Per Mertesacker’s agent said yesterday that his client would be leaving Werder Bremen to add either Arsenal, Liverpool or and unnamed Italian club – thought to be Juventus – to his CV.

The German has stated in the past his desire to play in England, therefore a move to either London or Merseyside would be most likely.

Elsewhere, The Daily Express report that Scott Dann’s move to The Emirates is ‘imminent.’ The Birmingham stopper was injured for large parts of the season in 2010/11, but comes with a glowing reputation.

The former Coventry defender was talked up by ex-teammate, Roger Johnson last week as having a Premiership future. He said that he expected the defender to join him in leaving Birmingham, and to sign for a Premiership side “where he should be.”
